So for this week I wish I had alot of cool stories for you about the work but the truth is all the cool funny stuff has had nothing to do with the work. Maybe I can come up with an analogy! So Elder Hammer one of the elders I live with who is from Seattle ( helping represent the Northwest! ) is a big golf guy. He worked at a golf course during high school and was on the golf team and everything so we got talking about golf at the beginning of the week. Well on Thursday we were practicing our air swings talking about the glory days when we could drive 500 yards as staight as an arrow and shoot 10 under every round :) !! Well by Friday we were swinging our broom around like a golf club imagining ourselves at the Brasada driving range or Aspen lakes hole number 1 etc. By Saturday night we unscrewed the broom and were banging around bottle caps, chipping and putting, ( keep in mind this is all in the house ! ) So Sunday after church during our lunch time I taped the caps together set out my yoga mat and started cracking away drives. This is when it got heated we were pounding these caps against the wall sparks were flying off the ground from the broom hitting the ground ( ya know, us taking our divits) Well then unfortunately we broke the broom stick! You’d think that would stop us, but no we just got the mop stick (who needs to clean anyway!) which is much stronger - iron shaft flexes with your swing great driver :) So we were just pounding these taped up bottles caps into the wall in our spare room. Then I got thinking of one time when we were at Matthew and Verenices last summer and how Matthew set up an obstacle course in his back yard and we would chip to the bucket or whatever and see who would get closest. Well I decided I’m going to call Elder Lombardo, he is in Asuncion and see if he knows any golf shops. He referred me to a member. So today my companion had to go into Asuncion to sign into the country again. After he did that we went and found this golf shop and got pitching wedges and golf balls. It turns out there is a golf course 15 miles away from Caacupe for $10 for 18 holes :) I am pretty sure Hammer and I are going to go on a division and go shoot 18 with the owner of the golf shop, who we met today, next Monday. And just to assure you all that we are working we will teach him about God’s golf course called the Plan of Salvation as we are playing!!
So for Rocio and Jorge their papers are still totally screwed up. I tell ya what, if their papers don’t get figured out soon I’m afraid I’M going to go bald! But we taught them the word of wisdom this week and I have been kind of nervous about that. I have been trying to get their testimony strong enough that whatever commandment or trial comes, they will be strong. SO we taught word of wisdom and they both drank coffee and he drank beer and smoked So we taught anyway and it went super good! Now they are completely following it though, I’m pretty sure he smoked on Saturday when they got kicked out of their house. But now they have a new house and a new job and its perfect! Such an answer to our prayers cause now all Jorges friends that encouraged him to drink and smoke are gone. He will be a ranch hand and work alone. It will be a great job and place for them. Now if only those dang papers would work out they could get baptized. But hopefully the Lord will continue to prepare a path for them.Alright well I love you guys thanks for all the emails and even more the pictures - I love those. I am so truly greatful for this opportunity to serve here and establish the Lords kingdom in Paraguay. Thank you for all you do for me in every way.
This crazy monkey we found as a pet. Super crazy! The thing jumped all over the place and loved to rob our name tags!
The Paraguayans love to burn things. They just let them smolder all day long so by the end of the day the streets are all hazy - super annoying.
