Paraguay 6/7/10

Hey everybody--

So another fun week here in Caacupe. Actually kinda eventful. On Tuesday Marta had surgery cause her appendix exploded so she was in the hospital and it was kinda crazy because we were in the area of her house. We were ahead of schedule for the day so we decided to go to Marta’s. Her grandma came out to the gate and was crying and we asked what’s going on, and she said come in, come in. So we went in and she told us about Marta being in the hospital because she had ‘eaten bad beef’ (So off topic but important, I am already scared of Paraguayan beef, when I heard that, I was like oh man - their beef even puts them in the hospital!!!) and how ‘her chest felt super heavy so she went to the hospital’ and they told her that they needed to operate and called and told the Grandma that while we were there and she started crying even more. We tried to comfort her and said, oh it’s going to be ok etc. and we shared a scripture. Then Marta’s mom showed up from the hospital and said she needed money for the surgery. It was a lot of money so I thought, wow that’s not possible for this family. Well turns out there is a reason the Grandma lays on her bed all the time… cause there is grocery sacks full of money under that bed!! That’s one expensive mattress!! ha ha but in the end Marta had the surgery. We gave her a blessing and now she is back in her home and getting better.

This week was our last zone conference with President and Sister Wade, they are so awesome! I’m sure everyone says that about their mission president but they are seriously great. I am glad I got to have them for these past few months. Our next President is from Argentina President and Sister Maradiaga (I’m pretty sure that is how you spell it) we haven’t’ met them yet but I’m sure they will be great.

So time for pictures:
This first one is of a sack of dogs! We were taking a pee break while crossing from one side of the hill to the other and we heard this whaling cat noise and Elder Olsen went looking through the jungle to see what the noise was. He found a bag and it had 4 little puppies in it. Someone’s dog had puppies and they obviously didn’t want them so they put them in a burlap sack and threw them in the jungle to die. So sad. They had already been there through the night and were freezing cold and some had died, unfortunately there was nothing we could do.

We then headed to Ilarias to teach and do service work. When we got there they were all working, so we started helping them. They put us to work falling a tree for fire wood. And I was like --Sweet! We’re on it!! A couple minutes later the tree was a falling – so here is a picture.

Lastly, Taylor I got your letter bud and “flat Stanley”. This is one of my “flat Stanley” pictures I took a couple of them so I was just letting you know that I didn’t forget about you and I am going to send it back to you ok? For everybody else Taylor is one of my cousins who is Riley’s age. He sent me this letter that says to take a picture with “Stanley” and send it to someone else so that Taylor’s “Stanley” can travel the world. I’m pretty sure “Stanley” is heading to Missouri tomorrow hmm I wonder why?!?

I love you guys very much I am so grateful for all your love and support. I love the book of Mormon I know it is and needs to be our foundation I know we need to constantly be reading it to help us in our lives. I love Paraguay and love being here serving our Heavenly Father!

Love you guys

Elder Morgan

This next one is a picture of Benjamin and I. Our faces show about how we feel at the moment ha ha. Benja is a little down syndrome guy, he can be a little hard for his mom sometimes but I love the kid he’s a lot of fun.

Then this last one is a picture of me on top of Benja’s house and FYI everything behind me is our area of working.
I love you guys have a great week
