Great Bend, KS

Dear Family,

Another transfer has come and gone. Tomorrow I will get on the bus once again... and travel 4 hrs to Great Bend, Ks. It is the furthest west in the mission. Sister Hafen will be my new companion. Sister Robinson is staying in Lawrence. I will hit my one year mark next transfer. I really thought I would stay here in Lawrence with Sister Robinson. We were pretty bummed at first but it's really ok. I have been called to plant seeds and what a blessing that is for me, really. I seem to teach everyone the gospel of Jesus Christ, watch them change, their faith grow, invite them to be baptized and than I leave. I would much rather sow the seeds though than come into an area and have someone baptized right away that I don't know at all.

I want to thank each one of you for sending birthday presents. You made my birthday, special! Jaime, I can't quit looking at the 2011 calender with all the family pics! I LOVE it. The colorful noodles are great Savanna! Thank you! I was excited to get a new scarf as well and I already finished all the chocolate Laurie :) I have so much to be grateful for in this life because of the family I have. Not only do I have my own families support but I have another family (Morgan's) as well.

This past weekend Elder Richard G. Scott was here as you all know. Saturday we had an all-mission conference with him. It was a really great experience. We started off by going one by one and introducing our selves to him and shaking his hand and telling him where we are from. We shook his, than one of the Seventies, and than President and Sister Van Komen and than the Topeka stake presidency's. Do you know how many of them got a confused look on their face and asked, "Where??" When I told them where I was from! :) Elder Scott had us say what we loved about Sister Van Komen..so some of us shouted out, "Caring, Spiritual" and so on. It was really sweet. He then opened most of the meeting up for question and answer time. It was great. I didn't ask any questions but had my questions answered. President Van Komen called me days in advance and asked me to give the closing prayer. He said, my name came to mind when he was thinking about who to ask and when he thought of me, he felt that I was the one that needed to give it. It was a privilege to close that spiritual meeting. Sister Van Komen wanted me to tell you Mom and Dad (I feel prideful by saying this so don't take it that way) that Elder Scott leaned over to her and said, "Now that is one sweet prayer from one very sweet Sister"

Sunday morning we of course had that one hr special meeting, afterwards he shook all 8 of our hands from the Topeka Zone and talked to Sister Robinson and I. He was pretty funny in Stake Conference. He said, "Do you all want to know a secret about how to wake up in the mornings with a smile on your face" Then he whispers, "Go to bed with a coat hanger in your mouth" :)

These past two transfers have been my happiest. I have loved the people here and this area. Sister Robinson tells me that I wear my "heart on my sleeve". It's true. I tend to trust very easy and give them all my love. So it's not easy leaving this area, but what do you do? You just trust the Lord knows what he's doing and there are more opportunities ahead.

I forgot to bring my letter from Eli to the library but he wrote me the nicest poem. He titled it, "Friend" and wrote all about what a true friend is and said at the end, "I would be honored to call you my friend" I'll miss him a lot and it's really been a blessing to watch him change so much in so little of time. He's truly converted and ready to be baptized this Saturday. I'm so happy for him.

I think I told you all about Donna? I saw her one day, and I knew I needed to talk to her..so we went back on knocked on her door. Well she is hilarious and we taught her the plan of salvation. She asked, "I always wondered, do I get my body back and if I do what will it be like?" We had her read Alma 40:23 "The soul shall be restored to the body, and the body to the soul; yea, and every limb and joint shall be restored to its body; yea, even a hair of the head shall not be lost; but all things shall be restored to their proper and perfect frame." She screamed, "WOOHOO!!!!" and we all laughed so hard!

Many of you have asked what you can do for me for Christmas. I have one request. Each family do one act of service for someone in your town/ward/branch and write me a letter and tell me what you did and your experience.

I'll let you know my new address next week.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you all are safe in your travels and have a fun day! That is SO much in life to be happy about and this is my favorite thing to say lately, "Happy people count their blessings. Unhappy people count others blessings"

So count your blessings!

Love,

Sister Powell
