Dear Family!
Happy Birthday Matthew!!!! I love you and hope you have a wonderful wonderful day and that school is going well! Thank you for all the awesome emails everyone. Everyones emails were so happy and I received a lot of pictures! I love that. The Halloween costumes were cute and hilarious! Brian and Chase Caldwell dressed up as their wives made me laugh so hard!! Sister Robinson said it was a somewhat disturbing picture to her. :) I was a little confused about Tyler...it seemed like every picture he had a different Halloween costume on. haha. Brandon’s was funny! I thought that the little boy next to Eva was her little Mexican friend or neighbor...than I looked at the next picture and decided that must be Elijah...that's pretty sad that I didn't know my own nephew but hey it's not my fault I haven't seen him in forever. Thank you for all the pictures and emails and I am sooo excited to get bday packages! I've never been more excited for my birthday..seriously. Mail is worth a million $$ to a missionary.
This past week has been GREAT! I'm not lying. A sister of a recent convert called us up and asked if she could start learning again. Her names Katherine...it's a little weird to say my name while teaching her. We taught Allison again this week and the lesson was the best lesson we have ever had. Sister Robinson and I decided that we needed to talk to her about conversion and what steps she can take to become completely converted and what her answer from God may be like. We shared the story of Alma the younger and talked about how dramatic of a experience that was and that some people do receive very bold answers but others simply feel through the Holy Spirit that what we teach is good and that everything that inviteth and enticeth to do good is from God (Moroni 7:13) I than read two converts stories. Mom's and Shiara's. It was powerful! I warned them ahead that I might cry because I love my family and that their testimonies mean a lot to me. So thank you for the book of testimonies and conversion stories because I was able to use them in this lesson with Allison. She had a difficult decision to face as we left her with the invitation to talk to her parents about being baptized. Please just pray that she will have the courage and recognize answers to her prayers because God is always answering them for her.
On Saturday we taught Eli about Faith, Repentance, and Baptism. We invited him to be baptized, November 27th. The room was quiet and he said, "Why the 27th" At first I thought.."uh oh what bad thing happened to him on Nov 27th some year??" Than we said, "We prayed about it and that date seemed right" and he said, "I woke up this morning with the number 27 in my head and I didn't know why so I checked my calender to see if I had a doctors appointment but I didn't..I couldn't figure out what I needed to do that day" He gladly accepted our invitation and so please keep him in your prayers that all will go well and he will be ready for that day.
I know I keep asking you pray for things here but one last thing...pray I will stay in Lawrence! Transfers are on the 22nd. So in 2 weeks...yes ALREADY. I don't want to leave AT ALL. The work is just amazing here and we are working hard. President Van Komen said next transfer he will hopefully be putting Elders into 2nd ward. THANK GOODNESS. 8 hrs of church is starting to wear on me.
Oh lately we've been teaching the bus driver Dustin who looks just like Steven(my brother Steven) it's funny and really awesome that we even teach the bus driver!
We also taught Brian last night...he is so excited to get baptized Jan 1st! And I can't wait! I love that kid.
I heard Dallas is an Elder now! That is so awesome Dallas, I hope you're doing great :)
Someday I'll be able to send pictures again hopefully, until than you'll just have to be patient!
NOTICE: CHRISTMAS PACKAGES need to arrive to 517 W. Walnut St. Independence, Mo 64050 by DEC 7th in order for me to get them before Christmas. Please continue to send all letters and packges to that mission office address. Although it may be faster to send it directly to the Mitchell's (where I live)...we move around so often I don't want mail getting lost. The mission address forwards it here to Lawrence, so no worries I always get everyones letters. Thank you!
This is the Lords work and the fullness of Jesus Christs gospel is here on earth. I am so grateful for Gods love and to know that not only can I be forgiven because I come short of the glory of God but those I love can as well. Christs brings happiness, Gods commandments make us free and world never has or will bring the joy that God can.
Love,
Sister Powell
p.s. There was ONE last thing I wanted to tell all of you but I can't remember so later today I will go, "OH YEAH! Dangit"
p.s.s. I was reading Laurie’s email to me and she talks about hair and it reminded me. It doesn't matter at all what I was going to share but I'll share anyways..I totally chopped my hair off again. It's pretty short.
